A match that threatened to be a tight affair came to fruition as Knights held out an eager Underground side to secure a nil all draw.
From the outset Underground struggled to get shots away as stubborn Knights defense allowed few opportunities. They made a concerted effort to get as many men behind the ball as possible in a show of defiance towards the league leaders.
Throughout the game Underground were forced to shoot from range as the shear numbers of defenders made it nearly impossible to get inside the box. Underground struggled to get to grips with the situation causing frustration and angst in their endeavors.
Knights used defense as the best form of offense as their deep line afforded opportunities to counter on the break. Undergrounds back four had little trouble in holding them out but keeper Andy Speir was called upon to make the occasional save.
As the match progressed it became clear that only one goal will settle the result. A key chance in the second half by Liam Badger would go down as a major missed opportunity. Strong build up play and a rare foray into the box presented Badger with the perfect opportunity to score. The shot went wide and the match soon ended.
Underground will be disappointed with the result having dominated much of the game and applying most of the pressure. They will rue missed opportunities in particular the numerous chances in the first half. To their credit the Knights defended superbly and found a way to extinguish the Underground firepower.
Of course the result doesn't matter for Underground. They have completed a full league season unbeaten and comfortably finish top of the Major league. The season involved 9 wins and 3 draws where the attack regularly scored more than four goals and where the defense managed 5 clean sheets in the last 7 league games.
Underground FC complete the 2012 regular season undefeated
