Underground FC 0 Knights FC 2

Undergrounds fairytale season come to an end on Saturday as they suffered defeat in the semi final to Knights FC.

The game was tight from the outset as both teams sought midfield dominance. Each team employed different tactics as Underground tried to control the game in the opposition half while Knights looked for the counter attack.

First blood went to the Knights as a cross from the left field caused trouble for the Underground defense. The ball was allowed to bounce and the Knights striker was quickest to react as he headed the ball past the keeper into the net.

Underground looked to respond as they employed a high tempo passing game. Chances were created but they were few and far between. The organisation and skill of the Knights defense held out the Underground onslaught till half time.

In the second half Underground continued to play as much of the game in the opposition half as possible but there was simply no way through. Towards the end of the game Knights began to enjoy some dominance on the break and the pressure told when they scored the decisive second goal. Their striker broke free of the defense forcing Andy Speir to made a fine save, unfortunately the resulting rebound went straight to a Knights player who finished off by passing the ball into the empty net.

Knights FC were the only side to keep Underground scoreless this year and they have now done so twice. Their deep organised defense proved to get the measure of the Underground attack.

For Underground they now need to look forward to next season. The transfer window should be intriguing as some players may look to move on. Securing the contracts of their current stars will be just as important as the need to strengthen in other areas.
