Underground remain at the top after four rounds

Despite not playing in the weekend Underground held a comfortable advantage at the end of Round Four.

Round 4 of the NZCFA's Super League Competition threw up some interesting results as Underground reaffirmed their position at the top of the table while Oracular Orcas finally secured their first win of the year.

The Orcas secured their first win of the year in style with a 5-3 result against the hapless Alegria United. The team who were promoted to the Super League midway through last season after winning the Power League have struggled this season, conceding the most goals in the competition to sit dead last.

Their opponents, however, secured a bonus point by scoring four or more goals and moved to fifth in the seven-team league with nine points.

They trail Karen United [10 points, fifth] by one point after the usually goal-scoring machines could only put one in the back of the net in a 1-2 loss to the inconsistent LIFE United [12 points, second].

Hammered 1-5 last week, LIFE came back with a hiss and a roar to shut down the attack-oriented Karen and secure their second win of the season as they rocketed up the table to second having played four matches.

Both Elim Saints and Hillsborough Re-United have fared well on defence but struggled in attack and that's how it panned out on Saturday as both sides played out a goalless draw. The result saw Elim move to third and Hillsborough pushed down to sixth on eight points.

There's plenty of movement available in the table despite Underground securing a five point gap at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Six points separate second-placed LIFE United and bottom-placed Alegria United, though both are waiting on the bye.

In the round five fixtures, Oracular Orcas have the bye this week as they look to reassess their tough start to 2012.

On Field Six it's top versus bottom as Underground look to stretch their unbeaten run to four while Alegria look to get back into the hunt. The match begins at 12.30pm.

Following that match on the same field at 2.30pm will be LIFE United against Hillsborough in the Match of the Round. There's plenty to play for as the 2009 Power League winners look to keep the pressure on Underground while Hillsborough will climb a few rungs on the Super League ladder should they secure victory.

Also at 2.30pm on Field Five is the Elim Saints looking to do the job over Karen United. With a strong attacking side versus a strong defensive side it looks like the match will be an entertaining battle between two desperate teams.
